Managed IT

Your Team Works in 2026 — So Why Is Your Collaboration Stuck in 2006?

How do your staff collaborate with each other? I’m not talking about meetings or instant messaging platforms like Slack, Chat, or Teams. I’m talking about content collaboration and files.

For years, the norm was some sort of file and folder structure housed on a server in a datacenter or data closet somewhere. Employee access was likely defined by membership in a group and privileges were associated with that group.

Whether your staff are inside or outside the building, the data is typically presented to an employee in the form of a mapped drive or folder.

In the past, remote access was through a remote-client VPN software agent of some sort installed on a user’s endpoint. This was referred to as “teleworking”. That term almost sounds prehistoric.

Teleworking referred to using a telephone and dialing-in. Remember dial-up? I digress, but the point remains. If this is your approach to content collaboration your business is way behind the 8-ball. The days of file servers in your office or in the cloud are long gone.

Today’s workforce is no longer bound by walls. Today’s staff need the ability to leverage things like versioning (changes over time) and co-authoring (changes in real-time) from almost anywhere in the world at any time. Their connectivity cannot be tied to a laptop running a required application facilitating their access needs.

More importantly, the access must be secure, and a password isn’t enough. Layers of defense must be employed which include things like Multifactor Authentication (MFA) and Conditional Access Policies so the end-user’s identity isn’t just better protected but the locations and methods by which they can be authenticated are enhanced. If you need to meet a specific level of compliance, the associated security is enhanced exponentially.

Now, the enhancement to security should never preclude your business from implementing modern tools because your staff require these tools to keep your business viable.

The Gartner Magic Quadrant references a variety of vendors providing the kinds of capabilities I’ve touched on. Many of you have these tools and aren’t even aware of it. In essence, you’re paying for something and not utilizing it to the best of its abilities.

That necessitates a conversation and Auxzillium is the one you should be having it with.

Your team may be working from anywhere… but is your collaboration strategy still stuck in the file-server era?

If your business still depends on traditional file servers and VPN access, it may be time for a serious conversation about modernization
