I can remember a conversation I had with a client over 10 years ago. After our meeting, we were talking in the hallway of their building, and they mentioned the benefits of being able to pick up the phone and get to the “the guy at the top”. There wasn’t a Wizard of OZ hiding behind a curtain somewhere with a handful of gatekeepers to get through. That isn’t the case when working with a national MSP.
While national competitors may have a larger presence, in today’s world the geographical gaps have been bridged by strategic partnerships with trusted vendors and the need to “setup shop elsewhere” has become archaic.
Often, the number of staff and by consequence the level of experience is broad. This provides tremendous value until the level of turnover is exposed and the person you built a professional relationship with departs. We have had more than one discussion with prospective clients who have never gone out of their way to express this. The negative impact this has on the support experience and the trust the client had and must now put into a new provider is heavily impacted.
For many national MSPs, the client may be told they possess value and are more than a monthly source of income. However, the salespeople telling you this and the staff doing the work play for entirely different teams.
